Sexual assault survivors could soon keep track of their rape kits
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — There is a new system that could become law, giving sexual assault survivors control of their rape kit.
This week, Rep. Emily Slosberg (D-Boca Raton) and State Sen. Linda Stewart (D-Orlando) introduced bills that would have the Florida Department of Law Enforcement create a database to track rape kits statewide.
This database would be open to the victims so that survivors can get up to the minute information and critical updates on their rape kits.
“No victim of sexual assault should have to watch their attacker escape justice,” Rep. Slosberg said during a webinar Thursday.
